Pale Saints - Mrs. Dolphin

A compilation of the Saints early EPs, that was only released in Japan. It became an obsessive must have compilation for their fans.

It is catchy and intricate. This is demonstrated in the opening track The Sight of You. It has great melody and brilliant guitar work. Mother Might is a very slow haunting track, which I think is not really the Pale Saints at their best. There is a jangly pop moment in Colours and Shapes. The centrepiece is Half-Life, Remembered, which for many Pale Saints fans is their most defining moment.

The album is very varied. The tracklisting has been accused of not sitting together nicely. I think the variety suits the album well.

  1. 'Sight of You' is just brilliant and still holds up to this day. 'Half Life, Remembered' less so, but at the time it was amazing. Still achingly beautiful in places tho'.

  2. This is true. I tactfully said, "Half-Life, Remembered, which for many Pale Saints fans is their most defining moment." Because I do feel that this song is a bit over hyped, in my opinion.

  4. Wonderful stuff!
Just want to thank you for the great music on the blog, really brings back memories. 36 years old and used to have most of this stuff in one form or another, now lost or stolen or in the possession of some ex girlfriend. Some of it has aged well, some not so well but looking back we were really spoiled in the late 80s/early 90s. Then it all went to arse with Grunge and Britpop. Oh well... Thanks again!!

  5. I have to give you props! Your taste in music is beyond awesome. I remember paying 50.00 US for this one when I was unememployed. I was glad because I liked the mix of "Sight of You" better than the one on Comforts of Madness. Ah, the memories. Keep up the good work.

  6. Hi there- your blog is cool. I've never heard the pale saints before but am familiar with many of the other bands in your blog (and purchased the CDs way back when they were released)

Thanks for the opportunity to hear something new : )
